Does anyone actually really like wheatgrass?

So I got myself some wheat grass and barley grass powder and was totally excited about it. When I opened the packet it looked and smelled similar to matcha and I thought well that kind of grassy flovour is totally fine and happily made me a wheatgrass shot and took a sip and barely coudn't swallow it down. I tried to gulp it down like a shot -not possible! It's really very grassy!
I ended this experiment with just adding it to my morning smoothie in which it blended in perfecty and you coudn't taste it any more.

But that is not the end of the story. I tried to figure out another way of having a wheatgrass shot and found a solution!
When I had a bag of oranges on the counter I thought I should try and blend an orange whith the wheatgrass. Worked like a charm! It still tastes grassy but that's fine. I mean that's what it is. But the orange adds sweetness and acidity and with this it is actually tasty!

Mission accomplished!

What you need to do:
-Blend one big orange or two small (satsuma-sized) ones with one not-heaped teaspoons of wheat or barley grass powder. Less is of course fine too. Serves one.

Happy shooting everyone!

Post Work Out Lemon Avocado Smoothie

Though I have a long list of belated posts waiting I wanted to share today my post work out smoothie that I'm actually enjoying right now! :)
When you make a work out smoothie you want to consider a couple of  things. First you want a source of protein to build muscles. This can be any source of protein, for  example a protein powder of your choice although I would recommend the more natural the better! I actually get a really bad headache from those high processed ones with loads of ingredients which names you can't spell. You can have a animal based protein like greek yogurt or cottage cheese or go for a plant based protein like nuts and seeds (think almonds, cashew nuts, pistachios or hemp seeds).
Then you want some good fat. So what does that mean a good fat? It means that your body needs it to build muscles and other cells in your body. Good fats are most plant based fats like avocado, seeds and oil (coconut, olive and all oils from seeds). But the fats from animal products are essentiel for your body as well as they contain omega 6 fatty acids. Just make sure you go easy on these fats as we often consume too much of them.  Fats from plants and seeds like hemp, avocado, chia, walnuts and linseeds contain omega 3 fatty acids. What makes the fat from hemp seeds the best of all named fats and oils is that it has the perfect balance of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids in a 3:1 ratio. Like that your body gets exactly what it needs.
Next you want some good carbs to refuel your body. Good carbs are veggies, fruit and and whole grains (just to name a few: quinoa, brown rice, whole grain bread and pasta). Theses good carbs release the energy slowly to your body and don't make your blood sugar level spike which can lead to sugar craving and eating more.
Enough talked, time for the recipe!

You need:
- half a banana
- 200-250g of greek yogurt
- 2 Tbsp ripe and creamy avocado
- 2 Tbsp lemon juice
- 1 Tbsp shelled hemp seeds

-additional a pinch of vanilla powder

Blend all or leave out the hemp seeds and sprinkle on top as I prefer because I love the nuttyness of hemp seeds and their flavour otherwise just blends in. Enjoy!

I'm too busy!!!

I'm just so busy these days with uni mainly. But then I also joined that gym and I try to go there at nigth for group classes which leaves not much time for other things. But I tried and created some yummie recipes which I will hopfully be able to post the next days. To name a few: I made banana bread, spaghetti sqash and some smoothies and sweet treats ;)
But in spite of this awful busy I'm proud of myself that I managed to eat mostly healthy this week and go to two group classes. The second on was LesMills Bodypump and although I did kettle bell classes last semester I have now the most terrible sore arms! And it's now 3 days ago and I didn't do anything in between. It was fun though and of course now I'm looking forward to improve!
Tomorrow night is LesMills Grit Plyo class, last time that was pretty exhausting as well but it totally works!
Now I need some sleep for the dreaded long Monday...

Baked Cauliflower with Cashew Nuts

This is such a simple yet so delicious dish! Just throw everthing quickly together and put it in the oven and a light dinner or lunch is ready! This makes a nice side dish but also is a yummy and satifying light meal. Here the quick how-to:

- 1 cauliflower head
- handful of cashew nuts
- 1 Tbsp oil (use olive oi or coconut oil)
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds

Preheat the oven to 170° C, cut the cauliflower into little florettes and tip in a baking dish with the oil, cashew nuts and sesame seeds. Stir to coat the cauliflower well and then just bake for about 15-20 Mins until the cauliflower is at the tips golden brown.
Enjoy!

If you want to make this a big whole meal I'd suggest to add a little protein (for example chicken or tofu) as well as some greens. Always eat your greens! :)
